Orders UP!

The end of Q3 is in sight, so let’s take a look at what is going on in the world of Food & Beverage and of course with us at HSCM!

STARTER

La Vieille Ferme are winning with the modern wine drinker, and showing how co-branding is still an effective marketing tactic. The Chicken Wine team partnered with KFC UK & Ireland for a "Coq au Vin" pop-up wine bar in Shoreditch, and in the same month, teamed up with Dash Water for a rosé spritz kit.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it… but I am thrilled to be working with Verdant Brewing Co. who also know what it means to produce a great collab. Their most recent, a co-branded beer with Big Scary Monsters

who are celebrating an incredible 25 years of working with independent artists, like Lambrini Girls, SLAG, La Dispute and loads more. Introducing: Strange Loop 5.2% Pale Ale. I can confirm it is delicious!

MAIN

Drumroll please… We are talking Timmy T for Mains!

In pretty huge news in the beer scene Timothy Taylor has rebranded to what is being described as “a hipster”, “Gen Zing” or even, “Americanising” and everyone has an opinion - me included!

Dare I say cask is cool again? But it looks like data backs that up with 25% of 18-25 year olds proudly saying they drink cask ales, a 50% rise YOY.*

So I can understand the steps taken, a boom in younger drinkers = lets make the Landlord look younger. But why? What is the logic here? What if their new audience liked the fact that it has heritage? Are they not selecting the product because it looks like its been around forever?

As those that have worked with me will know - I bang on about boredom being your own worst enemy. Why did it need ‘fixing’, when it wasn’t broken - it was booming.

I suspect it won’t make the younger drinker turn away but I doubt it will stop a Gen Z consumer in their tracks. However, it does seem to be putting off the loyal, older drinker some what.

*Quoted from Andrew Tindall at System1 - I highly recommend giving his a follow!

DRINKS

A short review of nice things I’ve had recently:

Aldi - Rosorange £9.99: It is perfect on a warm day in the neighbours garden, and although the warm days might’ve left us for now, I will be keeping an eye out for next year. I also tried the M&S - Organic Cloudy Rose £12.00 and it was a big disappointment.

Golden Days Brewery - Their Ginger Beer, The OG is like nothing we have on the market here, unless you know of others? And if you do please let me know! It’s gingery and savoury and much closer to a beer than the Ginger Beer we are used to. I also tried their MVP & The Prem and was really impressed. You can get their Discovery Pack HERE.

Restaurant Recommendations:

  • The Mariners - Rock, Cornwall

Part of the Ainsworth Collection, exceptional service, well priced and some blooming good Fish & Chips.

  • Holm - South Petherton, Somerset

Our 4th visit to Holm and I still love it. Its great food, unpretentious and in the most beautiful setting. I recommend going for pint after in the Brewers!

  • La Chouquette - Didsbury, Manchester

We are super lucky to have the very best French bakery so close to home. They recently updated the original bakery and it is swanky. A must visit if you a close by.

THE CHECK(IN)

Looking to refresh your brand or launch a new campaign?

As HSCM grows, we've got space for two new client projects starting next month. If you’re an F&B brand looking for strategy that actually moves the needle, let’s grab a coffee (or a beer).

Whether you need strategic positioning, on-trade research, or a fresh pair of eyes on your marketing strategy, I’m currently booking projects for Q4.
