Orders UP! #2

STARTER

We’re starting today’s Orders UP! with VATS THE PROBLEM, to keep the spotlight where it belongs, on a campaign that demands to be heard loud and clear.

If you are reading my newsletter, its like you’re in the industry so you’ve surely heard a bit about the campaign, led by chef and publican Tom Kerridge. Their message is clear:

“In the UK, you pay one of the highest VAT rates in Europe. 20% extra in VAT for your meal out or stay away. In France, Spain and Italy, it's 10%.

In Germany? 7%. Our message to Government is simple. Let's stand together to say VAT at 10% is fair for hospitality.”

You can sign the petition, add posters or receipt cards to your venue or even just post about it like I am doing now, wherever you can.

MAIN

Deya + Allday Goods = AllDeya.

Two companies with aligned value come together to help stop keg caps going to landfill.

I just love this campaign. This is when ‘knowing what your brand is all about’ starts to pay off because campaigns like this become a no-brainer. Of course, it makes sense for Deya to want less waste to go out from their brewery. Of course it should be a serrated petty knife because that is what the people in hospitality need and use. Of course it can create a classic beer-style pun in “AllDeya”, which makes the next step easy - pop up the AllDeya Arms.

Two brands are now reaching an audience that might never have heard of them before. Their branding pairs beautifully and it's been executed to perfection.

I promise I's not being paid, just fangirling.

DRINKS

A quick dip into a couple of thing we’ve tried recently:

Zach first produced this whilst I was still pregnant, and I was furious because I couldn’t get enough of pickles, but I also couldn’t drink. So I finally grabbed one from my local, and I can confirm it is really bloody good. Keep an eye on Stiff Tea; they are doing big things!

I met Paul, Nirva’s founder, at the Hammonds Tradeshow and he gave me a few samples to take home. After a long day and the kids were in bed, I grabbed one from the fridge. It was honestly delicious - light, refreshing, and took the edge off without me feeling woozy. I can’t wait to try the rest!

Some venue recommendations:

  • If your ever find yourself in Manchester and need to get out of the city can I recommend to you Worsley Coffee Co? Not only is the coffee amazing and the ambience delightful but its also an old church, with full central pulpit and working desks available upstairs by an organ!

  • Posie Posie Posie - it is just one Posie but its so dreamy I can’t help but say it thrice. I love the decor, the menu, the food, the wine, the cocktails and the service. Highly recommend a couple of small plates, a good glass of wine and a friend to gossip with.

Promise next time won’t be so Manchester heavy. I do leave this city sometimes!

DESSERT

An update from HSCM HQ:

In-between checking in on my friend who missed out on an Oasis code and is a City fan (tough week to be him), we have been busy at HQ.

Patsy is up and running, and some of you may have even heard directly from her, as she reaches out to old and new potential clients.

We also redesigned a website for our lovely friends at JME Drinks Consultancy, travelled over to Yoooooorkshire to meet a new client, caught up with two friends in the industry who have also recently go freelance and wrapped up with another client Off The Wall Drinks - who are about to launch in a very exciting venue!

Next up we have a photoshoot booked with the amazing Kelsea Knox and a meeting with a new website designer for our brand new agency - The Maren Agency. Which I am going to try an document the launch of, as we go! So please go follow us on instagram.

TABLE TALK

Cool stuff we are inspired by:

TRAITORS:

It is the one of the best shows on TV, you are missing out on the watercooler chat (and I don’t event work in an office) and the celeb version is better.

Starts Thursday 30th Sept, BBC 1

JACK VETTRIANO:

As part of Maren’s build I have been revisiting Vettriano’s work. He is just one of my favourite artists. He captures love, lust, women and people just so incredibly beautifully. He sadly died last year but you can see his work on his website or in the National Gallery Scotland.

Baklava Clothing by Action Bronson:

Its Bronson in colour, in the forest, in a hat, modelling with a lawn mower. Its Action’s world and I want to be in it.
